Dawn Wells, the girl-next-door actress and former beauty queen who played the sweet Mary Ann Summers on the iconic CBS sitcom Gilligan's Island, died Tuesday. She was 82.
Wells died in Los Angeles of causes related to COVID-19, her publicist announced.

I was a young boy when Gilligan’s Island ran. I grew up on the repeats. When Dawn Wells was in a scene, it literally lit up the screen. She was as spectacular a presence as any actress on TV at the time. She is, in my book, one of the ten hottest woman performers of all time. I used to watch the show just because of her. And to think, when they cast her, she was just supposed to be a bit player...
