The conservatives in NH are excellent people. You don’t have to tell them you’re conservative, they’ll see it in you. But the cost of living there is outrageous. Even though they don’t have sales tax or income tax, the property taxes will eat you alive. So will utilities. My electric bill in the 80’s was $300/month.
I don’t know your age or resources, but pick the freest place you can find where you can survive on very damn little should you loose your nest egg, and be able to maintain in your old age. Severè weather can be impossible for the elderly, so plan carefully. If you need a doctor in a blizzard in these western states, you could easily be SOL. Roads get gates dropped on roads and you can go nowhere. It can get pricey if you have to travel an hour or two just to shop at mom and pop’s poorly stocked convenience store that closes at 5 on week days and doesn’t open on sundays.
In the west, wind is king. Stay aware of that.
Not Vermont. It”s already infested and has been for many years.
This site presents demographic info, including how people voted in given cities.
But that will change when we succeed! We will be self-sufficient. The United State of TEXAS!
Moved here 20 years ago. 10 years ago moved to Summit County so I could ski as much as possible. It was great. Within a few years the Front Range exploded and it became unbearably crowded in Summit. Neighborhood devolved into VRBO units. 5 years ago went down valley from Aspen. Escaped the crowds until two years ago, now same thing happening here. Not as bad yet but I know how this ends.

To aid a process of elimination I recommend you stay away from the Northeast.
YW.
Tennessee tempts me, then I look at the crime rates for any of the cities, large or small, and they are all really high.
I guess you’re good if you are out in the country and protect yourself?
WV went 69% GOP to 30% Dem in 2020. Every county was Red. Love the Constitutional Carry part.
Have thought about moving there from NC. I think others are thinking the same thing because houses seem to be selling at a good clip...and this is the worst part of the season for real estate in general! (Thanksgiving - Christmas)
South Dakota. No state income tax and a hot Governor
Where we are, west of Knoxville, it’s sooo safe.
I would suspect crime would be high in Nashville, and especially in Memphis. Typical Dem cities.
The weather here is so nice. We have a home in FL too, and much prefer our TN slice of heaven.
Sounds lovely.

I have thought about that, dunno if it is better in eastern or western SD...
I grew up within in NE Colorado area: Sterling CO, Ogallala NE, Cheyenne WY triangle.
I would move back, but the local law is kinda crappy, especially in Nebraska
While political trending is important it is not as important as other things you should think about.
Work or income issues like taxes.
What do you do for recreation and do you want to continue doing it or discover something new.
Church and social issues.
Housing and medical access issues — any preferences?
Down valley - Carbondale?
