The drunk man instigated the entire thing and basically got what he deserved. It would have been better to call the police, but, he really was stupid. That being said, people have said so many things in my presence for which I believe they needed a beat down or something similar. Is that now justified? Asking for a friend.
Switch this narrative around and the black guy would be the victim.
You can’t possibly know how it started. But beyond that, how would feel if the white guy was drunk and black and he was ambushed with a beer can from behind and then beaten on the ground. I doubt that your view would be the same.

I was impressed with the restraint of the man who beat him up. He gave him a good ass-kicking that he's going to remember but didn't cross the line into life-altering brutality. There was restraint.
Some people deserve a good ass-kicking. This young man certainly did.
