I liked the dialogue in the new version. As far as comparing it to the great John Wayne version its almost like two separate and distinctly different movies IMO.
I usually enjoy most everything the Cohen brothers have done, I find their dark humor hilarious. However I’m beginning to have an aversion to hanks.
For some who may not know, this is a sampling of Cohen brothers movies:
Raising Arizona (1987)
Miller’s Crossing (1990)
Fargo (1996)
The Big Lebowski (1998)
O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
No Country for Old Men (2007), Burn After Reading (2008)
A Serious Man (2009)
True Grit (2010)
Inside Llewyn Davis (2013)
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018).
I loved Raising Arizona and O Brother, Where Art Thou? They were hysterical.
I too love the Cohen brothers movies.
I still love the characters in the original “True Grit”.
Maybe just because John Wayne was so much bigger than life.
He was a great American. It is kind of like remaking an Elvis movie(without Elvis) or “The Godfather” and replacing Marlon Brando.
FYI, I just watched “A Serious Man” for the first time this past weekend. Talk about a black comedy. I might have to watch it again.
I have not watched “Miller’s Crossing” in 10+ years. Time to watch that again.
Try “Blood Simple” their first one. I thought it was amazing when I saw it back when.
I found none of the films memorable, and never finished one of them. O brother ran a few times full length, but I cannot tell you any details. Fargo? Couldn’t get past the fake accents. My family came from Nor’ Dakota, and people don’t talk like that. It was like having a movie from Atlanta where all you can understand is shi+ ni==a, muff uka gwin down
