Spoken like a Yankee. Krystal gives a full meat patty instead of a checkerboard of meat and air.
No White Castles or Krystals where I grew up in Connecticut. If you want more meat, neither are worth consideration, as both are tiny and have a 4:1 bun to meat ratio. It is about the onion juice as much as the meat. If you want more meat, go to Five Guys or Whataburger.
Krystal is an explicit White Castle knockoff, as its founder was largely inspired by his experience of visiting an Illinois White Castle before founding his own restaurant. I lived in southern Georgia for for years, and those of whatever background who tried both prefer White Castle.

Made White Castle stuffing for Thanksgiving this year. YUM!
Recipe? Sounds expensive.

Then again, I remember when McDonald’s burger was 15 cents.
You go back. I only remember 30 cents. I also remember driving all the way from Wallingford, CT to Hamden just to FIND a McDonald's. We had knock-off Cos Cobber and for chicken "The Little Red Hen", before Burker King, Kentucky Fried Chicken, and the rest came in.

Full level, you say? Below? Good gawd almighty!
I call 'em like I taste them. Both are much better than lesser knock-offs. I tried one in Wheaton, MD called "Krystal Kastles" (or some such). Burger King's "Burger Buddies" were unimpressive.
I like onions, and the White Castle hamburgers are cooked in onion juice and have diced onions on top as well.
When Rody Davenport set out to found Krystal, "Davenport had visited Chicago's White Castle restaurants, taking notes of successful features, before setting forth on his own venture." (Wiki)
His take away was to make it clean and inexpensive. He succeeded at those. He didn't have a secret enhancement to the food product, so it remains a mere knock-off.

Ditto. I tried both frozen at the same time when Krystal sold them in grocery stores and Krystals were better. The best of all ( aside from fresh ) were Krystals that I bought at the restaurant and froze at home. Nearest Krystal is two hours away from me but I’m looking at a trip again soon. I eat all I can there and bring home a 24 pack to freeze for later days.

I know WCs have the holes to make them cook more quickly but it makes me think that someone stepped on the patty with a golf shoe.

On New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, participating restaurants will be open 24 hours. “I went down to the 24-hour grocery. When I got there, the guy was locking the front door. I said, 'Hey, the sign says you’re open 24 hours. He said, 'Yes, but not in a row.”
“I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast at any time" so I ordered French toast during the Renaissance.”

Anybody remember Little Tavern (Buy ‘Em By The Bag) burgers from back in the day? My buddy took me to one in Silver Spring MD after I moved around DC. He said they were so bad, they’re good. He was right. And they were clones of White Castle and Krystals for the most part: a square, thin, gray, meatlike substance alleged to be beef, rehydrated onion, pickle slice and mustard on a steamed dinner roll. Nothing like it at 2AM after you’ve drunk yourself into a stupor.

I know it was in the late 1950s. A burger and fries for a quarter. Can’t remember drink price, probably a dime.
One of the first McDs to open in the Cleveland area, it was an easy bicycle ride from home.
They had no indoor tables, there was a bench setup around the outside of building on three sides and of course people eating in cars but no drive-thru back then either.

Agreed.. though neither are great.
If you have never had Krystal. It’s basically White Castle with mustard and a bun that is so sweet your arteries start to be inflamed with the first bite.
