Violation of UCMJ Article 92, for starters
To: BenLurkin
When my Dad was at the Naval Academy, one of his classmates got married. This was against the rules. So,the classmate kept it a secret. However, he had a jealous rival who knew the rule and the jealous rival never said anything for 4 years. Just prior to graduation, the jealous rival ratted my Dad’s classmate out. The classmate was dismissed from the Academy.
Back then, if you “bilged” out of the Academy, you had to serve six years as enlisted. Sometime after graduation, my Dad ran into his old classmate on duty. The old classmate had to salute my Dad. It was humiliating for his old classmate. My Dad never forgot that.

Okay, we’ll hold your hand and walk you through it. Perhaps these ideas of morality and accountability are foreign to you. As is the idea of looking it up yourself.
Article 133 deals with officers, midshipman or cadets who are convicted of behaving in a manner unbecoming of an officer and a gentleman. Such a service member will be punished as directed by a court martial. Here 'officer' includes commissioned officers, midshipmen and cadets, both men and women.
There are many offenses that come under the ambit of Article 133. Here are a few examples:
- Making false official statements.
- Dishonorable failure in paying debts.
- Cheating during an exam.
- Opening a letter belong to another person and reading it, without authority.
- Using defamatory of insulting language against another officer when the officer is present or about the officer to another service member.
- Being drunk and acting in a disorderly fashion in public places.
- Associating in public with persons who are known to be prostitutes.
- Committing or attempt to commit crimes where moral turpitude is present.
- Failure of the officer, without cause, to support his family.

OK, however, cadet/midshipman honor code/concept offenses are rarely dealt with via UCMJ, for good reason unless really serious.
Otherwise give example please.

In my first semester of my Firstie year, I was the academic sergeant for my cadet company. An African-American classmate (and a former roommate) admitted to us all that he was still at USMA because he was black. He was on track to graduate late.
In that semester, this young man failed:
(1) Another academic class.
(2) The fall P.T. test.
(3) Military development (how he did his job in the cadet chain-of-command).
(4) Military discipline (too many demerits).
At least he didn't violate the Honor Code. And they finally threw him out.
In the preceding spring semester, my company had had three court martials (theft plus a drug case) and an honor scandal that ensnared 3 plebe roommates. When the Superintendent decided to suspend rather than expel the three plebes (all white), the grumbling in the company was so vocal that the Superintendent came to explain himself to us over breakfast. We weren't mollified at all.

I wonder whatever happened to that West Point cadet who graduated a couple of years ago and was photographed shilling for communism at his graduation? If he did keep his commission after that stunt, I imagine others in his unit took care of his butt.

The article doesn't state what the cadets did to cheat or how they did it. Kind of important to evaluate the punishments being handed out.
What passes for journalism in America these days . . .
To: BenLurkin
...55 cadets have admitted cheating and have been enrolled in a six-month rehabilitation program focused on ethics. They will be on probation for the rest of their time at the academy. Three more cadets admitted cheating but weren't eligible for the rehabilitation program. I wonder what the criteria was for who was eligible for 'rehabilitation and who wasn't... Hope it wasn't based on race...

All of the cheaters should be dismissed. Lots of good people would like a free college education who actually deserve the honor.

Sounds like my experience at USAF pilot training. If you were a minority, had the right plumbing, or were ‘connected’ you could stay and get your wings.
