Slide alert. I just got notified today that not only am I getting a new work laptop, I’m getting two new monitors as well. Thank God I rearranged my desk, it’s now two desks in a corner arrangement so I’ll have room for all this on the second desk. I’m still toying with the idea of getting a switch so I can alternate my keyboard, mouse, and monitors from one system to the other but since I have the room I think I’m just going to set up the new system in it’s entirety. Opinions on this are welcome.
Oh, and Pence is Santa Claus. Ho ho ho!

2 is 1 & 1 is none.
Set up the whole thing since you have the room.

back in the day, I had 2 boxes. The monitors\a mouse\and a keyboard were on a switch box.
PITA...testing mainframe stuff and dot.com;dot.net stuff.
Whatever I was testing I had to test in a Windows XP environment then a Windows Vista environment, then compare results. We ended up bypassing Vista and installing Windows 7.
Not quite the same setup as yours will appear to be.
The switch box works well, but I had a mouse on the switch and a mouse also connected to one of the boxes.
I was getting weird results one in a blue moon and couldn’t figure out why. A sharp programmer noted how the mice were configured. Turns out that was it. Once I pulled the mouse from the box I was golden.
I never liked the 2 monitor hook-up to one box. I couldn’t quite get into any rhythm either expanding a desktop or having 2 separate desktops
Glad you are excited about the new gig.
Regarding your desk and computer arrangement, we used to use a program called, I think, “mouses without borders”, so that we could run our pointer across platforms.
Ultimately, the IT folks did away with it because it violated the security requirements of the isolated network that we use to run the power grid. Basically, the network for the energy management system shall not communicate with corporate except through a very well-controlled path across multiple DMZ’s.
I would keep the work system completely separate from personal, with all peripheral equipment kept separate also.
Many companies have fine print that their equipment/ resources cannot be used for personal gain or personal use. Large companies and fed have ways to monitor that.
Our principal checked a teacher’s computer from his own office in a separate building all the way across campus... saw that the teacher was watching porn while class was in session and marched down and confiscated the computer as evidence. The kids couldn’t see the screen.
Btw, the teacher’s union got the teacher reinstated a few months later. Awkward.
Home office, I presume?
Personally, I prefer to do my gaming, (and occasionally serious stuff) on a Samsung 55” curved 4K monitor, I mean TV, you get the idea.
Two tiny monitors seems like such a comedown anymore.
Anyway, good luck with the new job!
While a search warrant will guarantee the boys in blue will take anything electronic (yep, even your kindle), a quick perusal by an IT person will show that you were scrupulous about keeping your home life separate from your work life.
LOL, and I don't even know what industry you're in...but I spent some time in the legal industry which should show you my POV.
I'm so glad you got the job!!!
