I’m disappointed in him. Last year I had a ticket to see him in Dallas but didn’t go because he suddenly announced he was going to talk politics more. The cross dressing I could handle, but this is too much.

My sense is Eddie Izzard mostly does the cross-dressing thing as a hook or shtick. Same thing with this pronoun silliness.
There is absolutely no doubt Eddie Izzard is a big history buff and it is easily seen in his performances. He would never be able to recall all that detail without genuine interest.
