In light traffic it's a 7 hour drive for me according to google maps.But given I'd have to go through,or around,NYC it's probably more.But I could take one of those Chinatown buses for $20 or $30.

It’s a longer route, but try I-84 west to I-81 south. Work it out on MapQuest and see if that works for you.

I spent 20 years driving from home base in NJ to Maine, to Buffalo, to Pittsburgh, to Virginia. I got pretty good at avoiding traffic, usually just be leaving early... ungodly early!
