So I guess my suggestion of “space cowboys” was rejected. Oh, well. But think about how neat that would have been. Soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines, and space cowboys.

Personally, I’m fine with this monicker. Now, it will remain to be seen if they live up to it. This from a 26-year military retiree.
There’s already a report of one who cannot. A Senior Airman missed a required PT because he was in-line at a store for a newly released video game. He has subsequently been reduced a rank for the transgression.
And, what was the response for that reduction in rank? He posted “worth it” on social media. That person needs to be dishonorably discharged for blatant insubordination.

I wrote to several departments of the Air Force with my suggestions. These Airmen would mostly be working with machines and vehicles, I believe these ranks would have been appropriate for this new arm of the service.
E-1 "Technician Apprentice"
E-2 "Technician"
E-3 "Technician First Class"
E-4 "Senior Technician"
Keep the ranks the same for NCOs
E-5 "Staff Sergeant"
E-6 "Technical Sergeant"
For SNOCs
E-7 "Journeyman Sergeant"
E-8 "Senior Journeyman Sergeant"
E-9 "Chief Journeyman Sergeant"
For a higher rank structure or vocation, you could have "Astro-Specialist"
