Last 2 US embassies in Russia closing.

Not embassies, consulates. Of course I have no idea what the difference is, saw on the State Dept twtter.

An embassy is the "big honcho" and is usually in the capital city; i.e. the American embassy for Germany is in Berlin, the capital.

Consulates are like satellite offices for the embassy in large cities; there are five in Germany. That way if an American tourist needs help, looses passport, or whatever, the consulate office can help and there are more of them.
