was Buck Sgt or Buck private ever a “real” Rank?

In the Army, if I remember correctly sometimes an E-2 was called a Buck Private (mosquito wings) and a Buck Sgt was a 3 stripe E-5...but Id never heard of it as "official"

I’m not sure, as I was in after it was no longer a rank.
I saw an old pic and asked my NCOIC what rank is that?
It was Senior Airman chevrons, but no star.
