Perhaps this is the first shot in an attempt to get Roberts to recuse himself because he feels Roberts will prevent his case from being fairly heard.

Remember after the court has either refused to hear it or heard it and refused to rule on it, it is too late to complain as there is no one above them to whom one could appeal.

So Wood would need to get Roberts off the bench before his cases are scheduled.
