“We are the gold standard. They’re back there in Hollywood making movies right now because of us. Because they believe in us and what we’re doing. I’m on the phone with every f—ing studio at night, insurance companies, producers and they’re looking at us and using us to make their movies. We are creating thousands of jobs, you motherf—ers. I don’t ever want to see it again. Ever!”

I’ve never seen more phony people on and off a set in my life.

Off topic, but what about Keanu? From the things I've heard, he seems like a stand up guy. Genuinely humble/grateful for his success.

When Tom Cruise starting pushing Hollywood leftist causes, some politician (Orange County congressman Bob Dornan, I think) called him “Top Gun turned top malcontent”

I don’t ever want to see it again. Ever!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That’s exactly how I feel about Hollyweird movies.
I’ve never worked with him. But I have a friend who was in a movie, that was shot out of town with him, and said Keanu recognized him and a couple of other actors from the movie in a restaurant and came over and ate with them. They said he was real down to earth, not pretentious at all. Said he was real gracious to the servers who worked there too.
One thing I’ve noticed with movies on Prime, Netflix and Hulu...many were made in 2019 and 2020. Apparently, there’s little if any “in a theatre near you” time. When the MI series winds up on my widescreen with little time between theatre premier date and eventual boob-tube release...I’ll smile.
“...when they got a taste of fame.”
Hasn’t this been consistent with many of today’s “superstars?” I think you’ll agree that most of those in the top earners slots in Hollyweird by being spoon fed have let it go to their heads. And it isn’t just actors and directors. The history of power in La La has always had it’s, so called, champions. Back on the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. it was the studio heads like Mayer, Laemmle, Zanuck, Warner, Selznick, and even Mr. Moneybags, Howard Hughes at RKO strutted around with an air of importance and were given wide berths by the media and law enforcement, that they just reeked of “importance.” Well. it was presented that way.
And they got away with all kinds of crap. They had brothels on the lot and advertised their use by their leading men to indicate their “manliness.” Or they advertised (leaked) the use of places like the “House of Francis,” for men like Clark Gable, Errol Flynn, and Spencer Tracy being regulars. MGM even had a charge account there. Prostitution was supposed to be illegal in California......for some.
But it’s all part of the mystique that “sells” projects and makes people famous and privileged. Now it’s leaked into politics even worse than ever when it started with the Kennedys in the late 50’s early 60’s. Everybody’s a privileged rock star. (Except those that pay the bill)
Quite, but I’m with Tom on this rant.
Whether you think the pandemic is a hoax or not, the insurance sector, and unions, will threaten to pull the plug if workers flout the rules.
It’s a risk that the producers and investors cannot afford. Already, several cinema chains are on the brink of collapse after spending millions on Covid Safe measures - not because of anything happening on their premises, but because the supply chain for new content has disappeared.
Disney and HBO are skipping the big screen and releasing direct to subscription services.
Like him or not, Tom Cruise had a ruddy good point. If people like him can’t make $100m blockbuster movies, and Netflix et Al are effectively only making TV movies, bye-bye summer blockbusters and farewell cinema.
90% of movies on streaming services are low budget woke crap. Entire channels are broadcasting pukeworthy low rent Christmas films (morality talesl at the moment.
It’s like 24-7 segments of the Moral Messages that used to close out episodes of He-Man.
The last bastion of totally shameless violent un-PC fun is comedy horror.
Tom Cruise cannot believe the pandemic is real otherwise he and the other actors would be wearing a mask in all their scenes. The virus is smart, it knows not to affect actors and news readers and how far you are from each other and what time a day and whether you are in a bar or at wal-mart.
So all the actors will be wearing masks when they shoot their countless takes...when they fight, talk, kiss, etc.
Sure they are:
HOW does a hairdresser stand 6 feet away???
How does a wardrobe person stand 6 feet away???
How does a makeup person stand 6 feet away???
Regular testing is the best that can be expected.
Millions of $$$$ from investors should not be in the control of 2 or 3 or 4 ‘health workers’ in the county.
He’s been a prime star for almost 30 years.
That’s more than N equals one.
I liked Ernest Borgnine.
Just watched him a couple weeks ago in Escape from New York.
