China appears to have used mobile phone networks in the Caribbean to surveil US mobile phone subscribers as part of its espionage campaign against Americans, according to a mobile network security expert who has analysed sensitive signals data.

The findings paint an alarming picture of how China has allegedly exploited decades-old vulnerabilities in the global telecommunications network to route “active” surveillance attacks through telecoms operators.

The alleged attacks appear to be enabling China to target, track, and intercept phone communications of US phone subscribers, according to research and analysis by Gary Miller, a Washington state-based former mobile network security executive.

T he new district attorney in Los Angeles wants to drop special circumstance allegations against a man charged last year with shooting an off-duty law enforcement officer in the head, according to a report.

The move by DA George Gascon has angered the sister of Los Angeles County deputy Joseph Gilbert Solano, Fox 11 Los Angeles reported Tuesday.

“Completely in shock, I can’t even tell you, my heart just dropped, I couldn’t believe it,” Christina Solano told the station. “He should be there for the families, we are the victims here, not this person who shot him. I don’t understand what his purpose is to let these murderers out of jail, I don’t get it, he’s like the Devil, I don’t understand it.”

I remember a story from a couple of years ago - a researcher was studying internet traffic patterns and determined a significant volume of internet traffic in The US was being routed to China and back. It was a claimed "glitch" that was ongoing for several years. Like many stories, made big news for a few days, then nothing. Fell into the dustbin of history.
