>>Do I dare ask your...wisdom? Oh, how old are you?
Not as wise as mother. She was kind enough to bring me forth 76 years ago. On the officers’ side of the military hospital while the German sub U-505 passed into the harbor with a broom upside down and mother watched it go by the little island. Those were the days when the women were forced to take castor oil cocktails and the babies were stuffed into drawers because the hospital couldn’t handle the number of war baby births. Loved listening to mother’s stories.
I am a financial advisor since 92 with many elderly clients. The stories about wartime I’ve heard... Fascinating... sometimes I just sit and listen for hours. I have one such client still alive.
One guy survived 3 plane crashes, 2 at the same airport.
Another had an artillery truck spotter group in front of them hit a mine, everyone died. He later called in the last strike on German armor in Italy, destroyed the entire 1000 yr old town...he wept as he told the story.
Another saw a dog walking with a human leg in its mouth after a pasta factory in italy was blown up by US bombers...
Another was involved in the raid to get Rommel from Hospital in France
Another was a 30 yr air force, b17 navigator who never parachuted in his life...
Soon, all gone, but the stories...
Oh Mairde, thank you for sharing that birth story. I love your stories too. Obviously you had a good teacher.
