Indeed. The old saw about “why buy the cow if the milk is free?” turns out to be more or less true. I personally know two childless women who wanted to be moms who wasted the tail end of their fertility (late 30s, early 40s) on dudes uninterested in marriage and children. It’s a sad thing because they lacked the courage and character to cut their losses and try to move on to someone else.
Women spend their youth with guys they think are hot and exciting. Then get unhappy and upset when they find themselves past their fertile years, the hot and exciting guys are chasing younger women, and the unexciting guys they rejected in their 20s have found other women, or decided to stay single.
For most of human history, the pattern has been that women get married when young, to an older man able and willing to support a family. Much of our social problems come from abandoning that pattern.
I know a lady who has been with a guy for thirty years and is still hoping to get married. She has no children and 5 cats.
