I think for the most part Bookshop Santa Cruz does well at those things. They have a lot of events, with authors coming. They have a loyalty program. It would be a shame for the community to lose it.
“...fully trained booksellers...”
Is there a certificate for that, or is a four-year comittment?
Left eats left.
Schadenfreude.
Was there this morning. My boy wanted to buy The Brothers Karamazov. There was a long slow line of 20 complaints outside. The store only allowed 8 people in the store at a time. Hello Amazon.
Which translation are you going for?
What grade is your son? I envy him reading that. Perhaps the best novel in all of literature.
Back from college. Soph. Went to Oneills, Stagnaros,Santa Cruz Mtn. Brewery then back to the belly of the beast in SJ. I’ll tell him you gave it a thumbs up!!
I read it my sophomore year.
#13. Re “My bagel has used chewing gum in it”.
Sorry! I dropped the bagel on the floor before I put a schmear of cream cheese over the gum to cover it up but also to add a little more chewiness to it. /sarc
My version of Rahm Emanuel’s admonition: “Never let a dropped bagel go to waste”.
As for Ms. Jenkins, I need a job, period. You gonna hire me. I probably have more books than your bookstore (including about 15 I have either contributed to, edited, or advised on). At 75 I’m not going to get many $15 an hour jobs, if they existed and right now they don’t.
She won’t help me pay for my cancer/post-cancer treatments/bills, will she?
Santa Cruz. Once a nice liberal place. Now I hear it is trying to imitate San Francisco. Go for it fools. I’ll be back there.
Welcome to a future on unemployment which is where I’m going after 28 years on one job (Virus closed down office, contract, and any future work for at least a year). I’ll make it on my own but now is not the time to pull leftist shit on struggling store owners. You’re job, in order to keep your job, is to help them and your colleagues.
Logos closed down a few years back, I heard.
This one I guess is still in the same place. It’s bricks fell in the Earthquake and killed a young woman.
It had a nice courtyard behinds with coffee place and stuff. Maybe it’s still in business because it’s a destination as much as a bookstore.
Last time I was there it was in the temporary tent in the parking lot.
YESSIREE...
Note to book store:
Move completely out of the state & get a GOOD website person.
You can sell a book on the internet much cheaper than you can with employees.
Right now, I cannot even come & shop at your store-—so IF In wanted one of your books, I would have to resort to the internet anyway.
Stop this nonsense before it gets a foothold.
The UNION demands NEVER stop. I Know-—I have personally seen some real Dooozies..
I am confused:
Can anyone here explain to me-in detail—how a bookstore seller employee can ‘work from home’ because they are afraid of the public due to Covid? Open shipments-—Stock shelves??? DUST?
Most small stores have been completely shut down, anyway.
As a life long accounting person, I cannot figure that out, either.
