Little known (in America) songwriter Jim Steinman wrote this song. Jim wrote several big hits of that time.
He called the style Wagnerian Rock. Inspired by classical composer Richard Wagner.

Some of Jim’s other work includes;
“Making Love Out of Nothing At All” by Air Supply
“Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler
“But I Won’t Do That!” by Meat Loaf
“It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” by Celine.

I’m an American and I knew that:)
I drove half way across the continent several times playing predominantly just that album with a little bit of radio on occasion.

The Steinman/Meatloaf collaboration was great. Meatloaf had been trained in classical music but wanted to do rock. Steinman didn’t have the voice, imho, to do justice to the Wagnerian music he wrote. Meatloaf supplied the perfect voice to make those songs pop.

Both Steinman and Meatloaf wanted to do a follow-up to Bat Out of Hell within two-three years but since they were signed to different labels it didn’t happen.
A shame because I would have loved three or four more albums from the guys.

I was in my third year of a five year USN hitch when Bat Out of Hell rocked my world. I owned the record, the 8track,the cassette and the CD. Loved Jim too. I was listening to his music on Youtube last week. And for the duration I was that young sailor again. Good times.
