Depends on the dog, I think.

We had an Afghan Hound.

Beautiful as all get out, but not much in the brains department. Although, it may have just been that she was willfully & disdainfully ignoring our commands at most times (sort of like our cats). She was perfectly trained on leash, but off leash, good luck catching her. And woe be to any squirrel that didn’t get enough of a head start.

A dog lady I knew claimed that the narrower the skull, the less intelligent the dog. Afghan Hounds have pretty narrow skulls. Some breeds are bred for narrow skulls, so the breed gets more stupid.

I saw a list of dogs by intelligence once, quite a while ago. Border Collie is the top, I believe Afghan Hounds were very close to the bottom.

“We had an Afghan Hound.”

We have a greyhound. Good dog, but not necessarily a deep thinker. Can’t have her off leash unless in a fenced-in area. While most know greyhounds are fast, they are also quick and can be going at full speed in just a few strides. Caught a skunk once in the back yard. Of course it sprayed, but Ginger had it in her mouth so fast the spray never got on her.
