A Canadian-invented pizza has been deemed the most popular pizza in the U.S. for 2020, according to an annual report from food delivery app GrubHub.
GrubHub's "Taste of 2020" report has crowned Hawaiian pizza as "America's Favorite Pizza" after finding the pie was 689 per cent more popular than last year.
The "Taste of 2020" report is based on trends gathered from more than 30 million orders on the Grubhub platform. According to Grubhub, the order trends detail the rise in popularity of certain food items placed by U.S. diners from January-November 2020 compared to the same timeframe in 2019.

The dish tends to spark debate about whether the tropical fruit should be used as a pizza topping.
Greek-Canadian Sam Panopoulos said he created the pizza in 1962 at the Satellite Restaurant in Chatham, Ont.
According to his 2017 obituary, Panopoulos claimed to media outlets over the years to be the first to put pineapple on pizza after deciding that chunks of the canned fruit might make a tasty topping. He reportedly called it Hawaiian pizza after the brand of canned pineapple he used.
However, Panopoulos' claim to pineapple on pizza isn't undisputed.
The Associated Press previously noted that some suggest that pineapple pizza was invented in Australia, while others say it evolved from a German dish of ham, cheese and pineapple on toast.
#40. I hate you for that.
Have you tried Canadian bacon with pineapple pizza? oh my god it is yummy.
Mid 60s, Shakey’s Pizza. A big square pizza, half was Canadian bacon and pineapple, the other half was shrimp.
It sucked being the youngest of 5 with no vote...
Dad, who was shell fish intolerant, and I who preferred well done dairy pizzas usually ate spaghetti with meat sauce.
But... this Shakey’s sometimes had a trad jazz band in which our neighbor who was a phenomenal clarinetist played, which might have explained why there was usually that jazz band playing when we dined there.
The band was great. One time my uncle was visiting and we went up there to Shakey’s Pizza Parlor and he hopped on the piano when started raging on it, he was a professional musician but piano what’s his instrument, although he played others. But that day I think he played about 2 hours straight and it was a lot of show tunes done in a high musical style.
Those were good times at that Shakey’s parlor which was I think located in Bothell Washington but I’m not quite sure about that. We lived in Mountlake Terrace during the early half of the 60s.
Are you sure it came from Canada? I've eaten quite a few and I have never seen their logo printed on it.
Another heretic outs himself.
Yep. I’ve had one with a fried egg on top. It wasn’t so bad. It was in 1993. I don’t think they had artichokes on it that I remember anyway. The only decent pizza in Italy (actually Sicily) is the margarita pizza. Now their pastries are the best. That ricotta filling is awesome. I haven’t found anything like it anywhere in the United States unfortunately.
Canadians didn’t invent pineapple pizza. NYC pizzarias were making it at least 15 years ago. Maybe longer.
The real secret to Hobo pizza is finding the right hubcap...they’re getting scarcer by the day.
;>)
This poll is fake.
There’s no doubt they picked Hawaiian, because they knew it would be controversial and bring attention to GrubHub.
If they had named pepperoni the most popular pizza, do you think we would be talking about this?
As to the ACTUAL most popular pizzas, you can go to any pizza place and see what they have highlighted up vs buried in the menu.
Papa Johns: cheese, sausage, pepperoni
Pizza Hut: cheese, pepperoni, meat lovers, supreme (meat & veggie mix)
Dominos: pepperoni
Marcos: Meat mix, Deluxe (meat & veggie), Veggie
Cici’s: pepperoni
Little Caesar’s: pepperoni
So, based on my informal survey of what businesses put front and center on their menu & website, I’d say the most popular pizzas are:
1. pepperoni
2. Some type of meat lovers
3. cheese
4. veggie
Canadian bacon and ham are one and the same in the pizza business.
Another good one:
How many slices are in a large?
It's usually 8 slices, but if you're really hungry, we can cut it into 12.
You see that’s where the problem lies...
For a real Hawaiian pizza you need Canadian bacon not just ham. Then and only then will you truly see.
Ice Cream and Pizza is next...this is Canada afterall.
Your list sounds right to me.
Yeah, I remember Dominos had it about 20 years ago. If someone likes pineapple on their pizza more power to them. I tried it and it was ok, I wouldn’t order it again because there’s plenty I like better but if someone offered me a free slice I wouldn’t turn it down. Different strokes.
Anchovies or nothing!!!!
I actually like pineapple in my pizza. Favorite is pepperoni(spicy), pineapple and a light load of jalapeño
And real Maple syrup...
Keep in mind, this is coming from the standpoint of one who has been in the pizza business (mostly Domino's) since 1986.
