Methinks the speaker is providing some interesting hand movements.
The Catholic church, being Latin in tradition, sees ‘lucifer’ as merely a common nown, ‘light bringer’. The altar boy/girls who bring the candelabrums down the aisle are called lucifers as well, like the one that carries the cross is the crucifer. So, they probably thought it was cute, since a telescope does bring in light.
Oh my goodness. Not to dox myself but two of the people in that video -- and the person taking the video -- are friends of mine. I was invited to go on that trip, but couldn't make it.
