The question of whether we are alone in the universe remains one of the biggest philosophical conundrums of our time. While it seems almost inconceivable that our civilization is alone in the cosmos, the fact still remains that we have yet to see any evidence to the contrary.
Now a new study by researchers from Oxford University's Future of Humanity Institute has cast further doubt on the likelihood that we will ever come into contact with intelligent extraterrestrials by determining that such civilizations are 'exceptionally rare' in the universe.
The basis for this, the scientists argue, is that intelligent life on Earth required multiple 'revolutionary transitions' over billions of years, and that the odds of this happening on other worlds are very slim.

What ‘scientists’ can do with only one data point.
intelligent life is pretty rare even on our own species of 6 billion human beings.
Hello Capt. Obvious. Patently clear on 11/3 and moving forward many days.
Especially in “blue” states.
...and pretty much zero in any nation’s capitals.
Let’s say you’re a hunter. You take your bow and arrow. Now you shoot. Your arrow did not hit any deer. Does that mean there is no deer in the forest?
If they are including places like Washington DC is it even a whole data point?
You’re telling me.
If ET had been here no gov’t could have kept that a secret for 60 years.
All the current tic tacs are US experimentals. It’s been 35 years since the gov’t brought out a top secret plane (Stealth in 1986) About time for a new one. The Tic Tacs are probably 20 year old technology anyway.
They are bringing them out to show the chinese we still have it.
Indeed!
Was this study actually the universe or just the democrat party????

Anyone can claim anything at any time.
It’s folly to take the word of some self-proclaimed (or actual) scientist as fact, just because he / she says it. The question is one to which (in this lifetime) we will never know the answer.
If it was just Democrats, then intelligent life would be non existent.
You look.
You don't see any intelligent life.
Does that mean there isn't any? No.
Does it mean there is any? No.
It does mean, as far as we can detect, there isn't any.
Lack of evidence supports the proposition biological intelligent life is very rare or non-existent outside of out own.
It says nothing about the supernatural, by definition.
And getting rarer every day.
Heh. Damn I am dense sometimes. Or, just too damn serious for my own good. Sheesh. :-)
Why are we striving to create intelligence that is not life?
Everyone wants AI it seems
Yep zero (so far !) is pretty rare !
