It’s because they face a similar situation as the USA. Doctor’s are clamoring for approval to prescribe HCQ for their patients off label. Many Doctors are in fact using it prophylactically for themselves.
Their equivalent of the FDA refuses to allow them. An Aussie Billionaire, Clive Palmer, through his foundation, actually purchased millions of doses of Hydroxychloroquine and donated the supply to the National Medical Stockpile last April.
