Trump has done many amazing things, especially while being under continuous virulent attack and having no stable of political cronies to fill the many government positions. Did you provide your list of competent candidates when he took office? He has done an amazing job with all the Democrats and ~half of the Republicans in opposition.

There is actually a HUGE body of published research on this topic. There is something called “corporate culture” which, once engrained in an entity, keeps going forward, for decades.

It is a historical fact that the roots of the FBI was an investigative/political entity, micro-managed by Hoover to not only fight communism, but also control politicians - even SCOTUS justices - whom Hoover believed to be a threat to the nation.

It is a well-known fact that he put his judgment above the will of the people. He justified this because he felt that, as head of the newly-founded, Federalized law enforcement entity with broad national jurisdiction, he possessed extraordinary knowledge. He therefore believed his judgment was better-suited to determine what is best for the nation than the will of the people.

Maybe this attitude was justified during the First Red Scare, when there were documented incidents of anarchist bombings that threatened our Constitutional Republic.

But in the 21st Century, we need the DOJ to be non-political. I don’t care how popular, well-funded, and well-perceived a politician is. If he is corrupt, the FBI should criminally prosecute.
