David Prowse, the champion English weightlifter and bodybuilder who supplied his 6-foot-7 frame — but not the voice or the deep breathing — to portray Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, died early in the morning on Saturday following a short illness. He was 85.

It’s not as cool as you’d think...
I was in London when they were filming Empire and Dave took me to the studios. Walking along we encountered George Lucas and Dave wanted to introduce me. Lucas was OK with me but he gave Dave a complete cold shoulder. Dave was very embarrassed. Definitely something I will never forget - or forgive.
On the positive side, later I sat there while the makeup artist made a mold of Dave’s head for the scene where the back of Vader’s scarred head is seen.
