ah, i see your posted excerpts did say it ‘speared through the barrier’ - He’s so lucky to have remained conscious- I can’t even imagine the panic of trying to get all the harasses and wires undone just to be able to get out- So glad we saw the outcome we did-

Check out Pics in Post # 22 of ARMCO Nosecone-HALOed apart.
If there had been no HALO Romain’s Head and Helmet would either have been stuck in ARMCO center rail or rolling around the scene and His torso would have still been belted in the burning Cockpit.
Guardian Angel without a doubt.

Drivers have to disconnect: 1 Release Latch-5 Point Safety Harness, Radio lead, Drink Tube, there is also a Padded Surround at the top edge of the Cockpit (I'm not sure if it has to come out to exit or not) and the Steering Wheel has to come off also. Drivers have to practice the Exit including reinstalling the Steering Wheel under non-emergency conditions. {Sir Chode- do I have the above info correct ?}
INDYCAR has a HALO that also has Windscreen (?LEXAN?) they added after the Death of Justin Wilson at Pocono in 2015

Prior to the HALOSCREEN (My name for it) INDYCAR made this change Advanced Frontal Protection
