Hi, that was to be my girl’s and my dinner. Called Little Caesar’s, instead. Ah, well!

When I was a teen, the Italian restaurant I worked at served a group beef that had gone over to the dark side. They were NOT happy! Hell, I was the dishwasher, but I knew that meat was bad. I would not eat it, and have a cast iron stomach!

The nose knows!

True, and you ignore it at your peril. The worst food poisoning I ever had was from some Italian sausage in Nevada, in 1988. I thought it tasted just a little off, but I ate it anyway. Couldn’t even keep water down for two days, and wasn’t really well for about a week. Since then, I don’t eat anything if I have the least doubt.

As for kitchen mishaps, I’ve had more than a few, but the one that really sticks in my memory happened in 1977. I was working on the Oregon coast, and a neighbor who fished commercially had given me a small salmon (about 3 lb). I baked it, and then when I was taking it out of the oven, I dropped it on the floor and it completely fell apart, nothing salvageable. I really wanted that fish. 43 years ago, and I still regret it.
