A 14-year-old Michigan girl who was handcuffed by police three years ago — leading to department reforms — has died of COVID-19, her family said.

Honestie Hodges’ grandmother announced in a Sunday post on GoFundMe that the teen died following a nearly two-week stay at Helen Devos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Honestie tested positive for the illness on Nov. 9, and later that night was hospitalized in the intensive care unit, where she would be hooked up to a ventilator and given a blood transfusion before dying.

It is possible, but very unlikely if she was healthy. I’m guessing she was engaged in unhealthy activities (drugs, drinking) and was behaving as if she could not get COVID.

She almost certainly had an underlying condition. But the article makes no mention of that. Nevertheless, if she’d still be alive if it were not the virus, I have no problem with calling this a COVID death.

Yes, occasionally, very occasionally, the young do die of COVID-19. I don’t know who told you the CFR is 0.00000% in the young, but that’s not true.

This is a bridge too far on the belief scale. I am sure that our resident coronavirus doomsayers can give us the statistics on how many 14 year olds in the entire country have died from coronavirus... The latest data from the CDC that I could find showed 40 kids in the 5-14 age group in the entire country died with coronavirus present. Over 90% of those who supposedly died from coronavirus in the older age groups had serious “co-morbidities” like smashing into a wall with their motorcycle or brain cancer. My guess is that deaths in the younger age groups have a much higher ratio of serious “co-morbidities” than that... especially 14 year old girls who were poster children for the left when they were 11.

A clue to her actual cause of death might be contained in a USA Today article on this situation...

“Niemeyer said Honestie endured brain complications and was on a ventilator while at the hospital. Honestie also received a blood transfusion.”

The fact that no article that I could find contains any information about what led up to this highly unusual “coronavirus death” leads me to believe that the entire story is not being told.

Sounds to me like she should have been kept in the hospital. I wonder if she was a Medicaid patient. If so, that might explain a lot.
