I read the article. You can claim anything. A perfectly centered shot of the man at close range doing this, and then groaning theatrically while doing it. I’ll stand by my contention that it’s fake.
By the way, wildlife cameras don’t have sound. That’s a dead giveaway.

My first thought was that it looked, or more accurately, sounded staged listening to the guy’s grunts. As far as the camera not being his, I’m sure he knew it was there so what a coincidence that it was framed perfectly. The cigar was a nice touch also.
