A couple of thoughts about what passes for journalism these days.
Someone years and years ago told me that journalism was a craft, not a profession.
Someone the other day told me that there’s not enough real news in a 24 hour cycle and so the same stories keep getting repeated over and over as filler.
Combine those two things and you have craft people masquerading in their own minds as professionals, not getting their fingernails dirty as honest craftsmen would, repeating ad nauseum the same tired things to a captive audience, never asking any real or risky questions.
Add to that the saturation of “always on” electronic media and you don’t have to wait for the thud of tomorrow’s print newspaper hitting your doorstep or some talking head to pop up on your TV at 6:00 p.m.
All excellent points.
