But if your looking for a double nefarious meaning then 1910 Mexican Revolution which came after rigged elections.

Election rigging has been a long tradition. And if you want to get even more nefarious, Diocletian came to power and led the bloodiest persecution of Christians to date. OF course, the persecution failed and then there were just even more Christians after that. Then Enter Constantine.
