To: right way right
Great Horned Owls are a pretty common sight where I live in Arizona, even around the suburbs of Phoenix, Mesa, and Tucson. You hear them more often than see them, but sometimes you can locate them at the tip-top of a tree or a lamp post. There was one hanging out in a palm tree outside the window at our last house, and after 9:00 pm or so, he would hoot up a storm.

I ran into one during the day on the ground once and, yes, they are surprisingly large, especially when they spread those big wings and fly silently away.

I hear them more often than I see them in all the fir trees here, the dog barks at the night time hooting.
What she really hates is the coyotes carrying on.
