Toto’s Steve Lukather is an amazing guitarist with a blazing, hot style featured on more than 1500 studio tracks of other musicians.
Fun fact: he played lead on “Beat It” although EVH had the solo and most of the “Thriller” album.
SL also played lead on Randy Newman’s “I Love LA”
SL named by Gibson Guitar Corporation as one of the Top 10 session guitarists of all time.
Wiki:
Jeff Porcaro, who had been playing drums with Steely Dan since 1973, became a mentor to Lukather and furthered his interest in session work.
Lukather’s first job in the music industry was studio work with Boz Scaggs, after which Paich and Jeff Porcaro—who had become prominent session musicians in their own right—asked Lukather to join them in forming Toto in 1976 along with Bobby Kimball, David Hungate, and Steve Porcaro.
this is the documentary called “HIRED GUNS”....tells the true story of who actually wrote and played on almost all hit records...fascinating. And after watching this, Billy Joel is a total dick....
Lukather’s best solo is The Tubes’ “Talk To Ya Later”
