Barack Obama slams Republicans as xenophobic and paranoid in his forthcoming memoir, which focuses on his first term in the White House.
In the 768-page tome, entitled 'A Promised Land' and out on November 17, Obama reflects on his political career but divulges in the personal, admitting life in the White House increased his smoking habit and caused tension in his marriage with Michelle.
He also speaks to race relations in the United States, writing it was his own historic election as the nation's first black president that sparked some of the current division in the country.
'It was as if my very presence in the White House had triggered a deep-seated panic, a sense that the natural order had been disrupted,' Obama writes in the book, which was obtained by CNN.
Donald Trump, he claims, sensed the country's mood and took advantage of it to win the White House in the 2016 election.
'Which is exactly what Donald Trump understood when he started peddling assertions that I had not been born in the United States and was thus an illegitimate president. For millions of Americans spooked by a Black man in the White House, he promised an elixir for their racial anxiety,' he writes.

Of course there are racists- here and across the world. I would venture a guess that most of us who voted against Obama did so because he’s a leftist, not because he’s black. If we all lived in Michigan I’d bet we’d have voted for John James.
He misunderstood our country as a candidate and as president- being a private citizen again doesn’t seem to have given him wisdom.
He’s unable to distinguish people who vehemently oppose policies of the left with racism and the other assorted phobias the left likes to accuse us of having. They always stop at appearances- unable to see deeper. Things like supporting school vouchers are “racist”. No! It’s the opposite! They offer a chance for minorities to grow and excel! To get out of the awful cycle of the hood.
Regardless- Obama seems to have permanent blind spots about the right. He’s dealt almost exclusively with the political class though- I think his experience with regular citizens is limited.

Obama’s Treasury Department regularly surveilled retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn’s financial records and transactions beginning in December 2015 and well into 2017, before, during and after when he served at the White House as President Donald Trump’s National Security Director, a former senior Treasury Department official, and veteran of the intelligence community, told the Star Newspapers. “I started seeing things that were not correct, so I did my own little investigation, because I wanted to make sure what I was seeing was correct” she said. “You never want to draw attention to something if there is not anything there.” The whistleblower said she only saw metadata, that is names and dates when the general’s financial records were accessed. “I never saw what they saw.”
By March 2016, the whistleblower said she and a colleague, who was detailed to Treasury from the intelligence community, became convinced that the surveillance of Flynn was not tied to legitimate criminal or national security concerns, but was straight-up political surveillance among other illegal activity occurring at Treasury. “When I showed it to her, what she said, ‘Oh, sh%t!’ and I knew right then and there that I was right – this was some shady stuff,” the whistleblower said. “It wasn’t just him,” the whistleblower said. “They were targeting other U.S. citizens, as well.”
Only two names are listed in the whistleblower’s official paperwork, so the others must remain sealed, she said. The second name is Paul J. Manafort Jr., the one-time chairman of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
