[I read somewhere that most of the asian series are studio dubbed because they dont do good nat sound. Ill often hear poorly done sound inserts of footsteps, etc.]
Van Gulik was University of Chicago, where mother and I went. I studied Chinese art there under Vanderstappen.
Van Gulik directly says that he modifies Chinese literature to fit western tastes. He removes the supernatural and doesn’t tell you at the beginning who dun it.
I’ve tried reading the novels underlying the dramas I like, but I find it tough going. Too much supernatural for my taste. What I DO like is the emphasis on poetry and historical literature.
There’s also major differences between American taste and Chinese in the dramas on TV. I’m used to rooting for the bad guy to get theirs. Most of the asian shows reform the bad guy, which grinds my teeth.
I often read about the actors and they’ll call out someone for performing their own voice over.
I made industrial videos around 1990 and still remember trying to find the sound that a newsbox opening and closing makes.
if you havent seen this one, it’s GREAT!! I give 6 stars out of 5!!!

I haven’t seen it yet. But I did run across it and put it on my TODO list. Thanks for the reminder.
Just finished two new videos for Love O2O.
Love O2O - Right Down The Line - Gerry Rafferty

Love O2O - Say It Once - Glass Pear

I love this series because the faith each has in the other is so unusual in a romantic comedy.
