A kestrel will eat that red winged black bird. Kestrels can knock it down in mid flight, grab it, bring it up into a tree and devour it. We watched two kestrels and their two young eat two small birds a day all summer long. Our lawn was covered with feathers and bird parts.

I live in a place with eagles and red winged black birds and this is a common site in the late spring.

I've had it happen fishing near a nesting tree, you can't get away from there fast enough.

Yeah how do you miss that? We see this all the time. Birds will attack raptors that capture other birds.
