I think it has to do with his age and generation he is part of.... These guys were rebels in their youth, when older people were very straight laced..... Now they see that without a foundation of family, faith, and community, the whole thing goes flying off the rails, even if they are loath to admit it
I bet to many old school progressives, this younger generation of totalitarian radicals at the least concerns them, at the most frighten them
