Yes it is, but nearly 60% of the state’s population is in the Atlanta metro area. That’s a lot of clout, and fully capable of swamping the rest of the state in an election — unless the *entire* rest of the state was reliably Republican, which of course it’s not.
Metro Atlanta has plenty of nice areas, far away from the center city. But in 2016 metro Atlanta, good areas and bad, gave Hitlery an 8 point win and more than that, it was the first time since the Jimmy Carter years that metro Atlanta gave the Republican candidate a LOWER percentage than he got nationwide. That might not sound terribly relevant, but it’s just another indicator of how rapidly this area is heading the wrong direction.
