Sean Connery, the Edinburgh-born Scotsman actor whose roles as British secret agent James Bond made him an international icon, died in the Bahamas on Saturday. He was 90.
Bond producers EON Productions confirmed his death, first reported by the BBC. Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli said they were devastated by the news.
He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words The names Bond James Bond, they said in a statement.
The producers said Connerys gritty and witty portrayal of the sexy and charismatic secret agent was largely responsible for the success of the series.
Connerys suave and fearless secret agent spy film superstardom began with 1962′s Dr. No. He reprised the role six more times until 1983s Never Say Never Again. Connery won an Oscar in 1988 for his role as an Irish cop in The Untouchables. He also had major roles in films including Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Highlander, and The Hunt for Red October.
Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she was heartbroken at the news.
Our nation today mourns one of her best loved sons, she said.

Billy Joe Shaver died too.
James Bind
Hunt for Red October
The Untouchable
The Rock
Bond- dang
Yes a great actor. But the real genius behind James Bond was Ian Fleming.
The full spectrum of roles.
90 is a good run.
Not an ounce of BETA in him.
Also in The Longest Day
Sad. But 90 is a good run, and he had a chance to enjoy a retirement.
As an aside, a few weeks ago "The Rock" showed up on Amazon Prime, so I tried watching it.
I couldn't make it past 15 minutes, well before Sean Connery made his appearance. The scenes with Nicholas Cage or Ed Harris were just execrable, at least as directed by Micheal Bay.
Wow, RIP 007.
How many lawns are displaying that very message today?
SPECTRE (an acronym for Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion) is a fictional organisation featured in the James Bond novels by Ian Fleming, the films based on those novels, and James Bond video games. Led by criminal mastermind Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the international organisation first formally appeared in the novel Thunderball (1961) and in the film Dr. No (1962).
It's okay,
Check out, “Outland”, a 1981 realism-based sci-fi film where he plays a Federal Marshal assigned to a mining colony on one of Jupiter’s moons. Its a variation of High Noon.
Will do, thanks,
And Blofeld is cheering.

Sounds like today’s DEMONcRAT Party.
Got it.
You Only Live Twice might be my least favorite Connery/Bond film. Thunder ball one of my favorites.
