If a guy had a day-pack (normal 1-to-2 days of food)...in the summer period, then you could survive (having lost 15 pounds).

In her case, things don’t add up. Not much weight lost. The story seems awful weak.

My first thought was that there must have been a love interest involved, although it was hard to guess which of the 387 possible "genders" it might have been.

Maybe she was doing her version of a Jesse Jackson ‘hunger strike’.

Although most here likely don’t remember, long ago Jesse was hunger strike to protest conditions in black neighborhoods (seem so quaint now), when, after 30 days, a reporter asked him why he didn’t seem to have lost any weight. Jesse stated something to the effect that in his form of a hunger strike, other people rotate in and out for him, so after a day or two, he gets to ‘grab a bite’.
