There are plenty of social media alternatives to Facebook and Twitter. The thing is, the company with the biggest market share usually sucks all the oxygen out of the room.
Google, Facebook and Twitter are essentially monopolies who then use monopoly power to crush other competitor's or prevent them from gaining any traction.
Given their blatant intervention in the US and other elections, governments have no alternative but to take strong action against them. The AT&T or Standard Oil solution may be best. Fine them huge amounts for anti trust violations then split each of them into 7 different companies with harsh regulatory regimens.

I haven’t been on Facebook now for about 6 weeks. Too much politics crap & lies from people that think they had to tell everyone why they were so woke.

Aside from a few professional forums that i had enjoyed, i really don’t miss it much. And i’m not likely to go back. At least , not anytime soon. Their loss, because just like cable tv, or Netflix, or espn, i find other things more personal and relavant to my everyday enjoyment.

I just bought a Oculus Quest 2. Oculus is owned by Facebook. You must now have a Facebook account in order to use new Oculus products. I was forced to establish a Facebook account in order to be able to use my Quest 2. BTW, a Quest is a virtual reality headset.

Friendster and Myspace came before Facebook. Murdoch even bought Myspace. Not quite sure how Myspace manages to lose out to Facebook like that.
Be that as it may, Facebook and Twitter need to be broken up for blatantly interfering in the elections for starters.
