The Japanese are ga-ga about heterochromia, and while only the Japanese bobtail cat might typically have it, it makes them a valuable celebrity. Often among their mythical characters, having heterochromia is seen as a trail exclusive to royalty.
We picked a Japanese bobtail kitten out of a road on the Miura Peninsula back in the summer of 1986. He was about 9 days old. My wife fed him using a toy baby bottle that came with a doll.
Down the years veterinarians told us to put him down on three separate occasions. Every time my wife took him home and cared for him, and one day he would get up and decide to go on living. Changed my outlook on euthanasia.
