I did tell them we weren’t racist and actually the President has a proven record better than previous administrations. Given the circumstances and the family, I changed the subject. I had already created a stir with those in attendance, including the widow, voicing my opposition to masks since service was outside.

Angelo’s Pizza

Now that brings back great memories!!! There's a great pizzeria down here in SC near me called Aromas. Love their food. The owner grew up in North Haven and he worked for the Nuzzios at Grand Apizza in New Haven and North Haven.

I’ve been think about the pizza place since I read your post. Was it Papa Gino’s?

Excellent guess, but no. It was the California based chain Shakey's, which still exists in a downsized mode. It was located on Washington near the OLD Little Red Shoe House which really was a little red house selling shoes.

I was thinking closer to the Center - There was a Papa Gino’s next to Rustlers Steak House, I think.

Little Red Show House. Site of the Mad Dog Killings. My mother would never go in there because of the murder.

Grand Apizza was good too. Most pizza places around here are decent.

I hadn't known. I just like going there because I got free Bazooka Joe gum (sometimes the jumbo size!) when we got our shoes there. Eventually, the shack was replaced with a real shoe store, but I assume that is long gone.

I did go tree and it was a shack, but the shoes were affordable. It’s long gone. But Dino’s is still there.

You might enjoy this link. It's a brief history of North Haven's murders, including the one I mentioned.

I regret having never gone to “The Dog House”. My dad always said they were overpriced, but as a kid I loved the sign. I did manage to make it to “Chet’s Luncheonette” just over the border in Wallingford past Barker’s and “Tots and Teens” once. That area used to have scads of luncheonettes before the fast food joints took over.

We used to go to the Dog House as a friend’s mom was a waitress there.

There’s a new place that s soothing like The Dog House that opened last year in one of the Plazas on Washington Ave. I like to go there once in awhile as it does remind me of the original.

Never went to Chet’s, but I did by my oldest boy’s christening suit at Tots and Teens, He’ll be 40 in December.
