Very true my two last computers were made by hand. Had one the shop put together and then I built one. First one cost about 1200 one I built cost 1080.00. Not laptops though!

I’ve had three, and travel a lot. They have held up well and they get a lot of use. Only laptop I had that ranked better was an ASUS, but that too was custom configured to my specs, and was at the high end of the scale as far as performance.

What are your needs, as that should drive you what get?
