To Freeper Lenovo owners - would you buy again ? ( vanity )

Greets from Japan . MY HP Touchsmart all-in-one ( 11 years old and my downstairs PC ...6 year old Dell upstairs ) is slowly dying and I am looking at new all-in-ones . The HP gave me many problems over the years - even when it was new - so I am not considering an HP this time around . Dell's technical support so-so and they cost a few hundred dollars more than Lenovo here in sushiland . I would rather not give the business to a Chinese company but the prices are reasonable and NEC in Japan handles technical/ phone support . Dell's is China . I'd be interested in hearing Lenovo owners' experiences as I trust my fellow Freepers advice and opinions more than what I can find on the internet ( reviews , etc...) . Cheers ...

Last time I asked my local computer repair guy what he would buy, he flipped the top on his laptop to show me that it was a Lenovo.

Wouldn’t know. The three-letter agencies that my company does a lot of work for won’t let us buy or use Lenovo hardware for their work. Something about too many instances of finding pre-installed spyware and/or backdoors.

HP laptops offer a lot of features for the price, but I’ve been underimpressed by their quality and durability. When it’s my own money, I buy Dell — but with a bit of sadness, that Toshiba’s gotten out of the laptop business completely and NEC laptops these days are basically re-badged Lenovos.

"Build your own desktop."

I have been doing this since the mid-1990's and I agree. It is fun to pick out every part so everything is just so. Built the latest one, for Mrs. Neanderthal, about 3 weeks ago.

I am currently using a Lenovo. I bought it four years ago specifically because Lenovo acquired IBM’s PC business. I don’t like the touchpad, and the disk drive recently crashed (I replaced it with an SSD), which is the shortest life of any hard drive I’ve ever had. But otherwise I’ve been happy with it.

Lenovo is not just made in China, it is OWNED by the Chinese government.

Lenovo has also been caught, MULTIPLE times, putting back doors to China In their hardware.

They shouldn’t even be allowed to sell here in the U.S. anymore.

I’ve owned 3. OneI wore out. two fell apart, then, got damaged by a flood of water (hard disk still works though), Three I am typing on now. Keyboard got wet and I had to get a separate keyboard. It’s fast, works great, and, I would buy another with no problem. Next year, it will be time for both of us to get new computers. Probably Lenovo again. I’ll save the hard discs.

(The issue with the water is that we live on a boat, and, I left it on the saloon table under the butterfly hatch. The first time, we went out of town for the day, left the hatch open but, covered by a tarp. Had a bad storm come through with strong winds (a tornado hit nearby) and flooded the table. The second, I thought we had the cover issue fixed, and we had started the habit of making sure the computers weren’t on the table. This particular day, no rain in the forecast, but, a popup thunderstorm appeared overhead. Just enough wet to kill 4 keys.)

If you want to send all of your personal data to the CCP, then buy Lenovo. Otherwise stick with Dell.

Methinks you are a Communist Chinese apologist. Being made in Communist China is not the same as being made by a Communist Chinese company. Although I tend to avoid both with a passion.

” think there are some pretty decent made in Taiwan computers out there. “

I inquired at Asus and Acer . Made in China was the answer and the telephone / tech support also in China .

You are in Japan. It ought to be very easy to find small outfits that build custom computers. I will never buy off the shelf ever again. I have a custom built Xidax and would use them again if needed.

Don’t buy off shelf...have one built.

More $$, but worth it to get what you want/need. Will last longer!

Very true my two last computers were made by hand. Had one the shop put together and then I built one. First one cost about 1200 one I built cost 1080.00. Not laptops though!

Bully for you!

I recently returned an HP tower to have a broken USB port repaired. The tower was one year old. The motherboard would be replaced to accomplish this for $498.00. Since I paid $563.00 new repair was declined. Two weks later on a four day return schedule I received the tower.

When I carried the box into the house I heard a rattle from inside. Upon opening the box I saw the hard drive and DVD/CD drive disconnected and leaning against the inside of the case. After opening the tower I noticed both were disconnected from the MB and supporting parts were missing.

One month later I received a replacement slightly above the grade I had from second level HP Support. I will never purchase from HP again, they are off my list after that experience. HP subs repairs to a company in Grapevine, TX.

I have had both a Lenovo desktop and a Lenovo laptop for several years and have been pleased with them.

I have a Lenovo that’s 10 years old.

Bad battery but runs normally on the AC. It’s also a Linux box.

Not one hardware problem ever.

My wife and I bought nearly matching Lenovo laptops (mine has the 17” screen, hers 15.6, otherwise functionally identical) based mostly on price point this past spring. I have no complaints.

I used a Lenovo laptop for years with no problems. Still have it, in fact, but finally moved on to something more robust. I remember that Lenovo had excellent product support.
