Setting aside morality issues, it is hardly criminal. For the much greater period of human history, a 15 year old was considered an adult.
I heard a spot on the radio about adoption and the guy says, “Who wants to adopt a 17 year old kid?” A 17 year old is a kid? That is laughable. I graduated from high school and went out on my own when I was 17. Could hardly wait to do so.
