The young couple were ecstatic by the restaurant’s mistake, and told me it was like the bank making an error in their favor

My palate isn't nearly sophisticated enough to tell the difference between an $18 bottle of wine and a $2000 bottle of wine. But if these two can tell the difference, hey - sounds like the wine break of a lifetime.

I’ve never drank a $500 or $1000 bottle, but I’ve drank a few $100 bottles ($100 real price not restaurant which makes it a $400-500 bottle).

You wouldn’t have to have a real well-developed palate to tell pinot noir from Bordeaux which is mostly Cab/Merlot as a rule!

Trust me a bottle of Rothschild is highly distinguishable from a Mondavi reserve.
