Didn’t one of them have to be the cut-off man while the other one had to man second in case the batter-runner tried for two? It’s the pitcher’s job to back up home in that situation.
SS waited to be cutoff in case throw went to third. Taylor had no chance to get runner at third but it appears as though he was looking to throw there. That was moot as soon as the ball went off his glove.
