Gee, what would happen if someone got an autoimmune disorder that caused those cells to attack their insulin producing cells????

Take your flu shots folks!

Instead.. something in the pancreas is triggering the attack.

Indeed. But what ? Could it be that naturally occurring molecules in the pancreas are acting as 'checkpoint inhibitor' antibodies ? Similar to checkpoint inhibitor drugs given to cancer patients ?

Actually, vaccines can trigger this type of response.

It is really important to reduce carbs, trans fats, and Omega-6 sources, as these tip our bodies into a chronic inflammatory state, just waiting to be pushed over the edge to cause our next auto-immune disorder (allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, etc.).

"We can't say that these are the only culprits in type 1 diabetes," says von Herrath. "But these T cells are the prime suspects."

Magnificently cool and wonderful, even if it does not lead to a cure.

How many years of stultifying work in the lab was required to make that announcement?

I know a few people, one who was a kid who “developed” type 1 diabetes after taking his “required” round immunizations, It was a “combo shot” too.
